Frequently asked questions
What can be checked before buying?
A DGT vehicle report may include information on registered ownership, ITV history, recorded mileage, previous owners and administrative restrictions.
Do you inspect the vehicle mechanically?
No. We review documents and administrative records. The vehicle’s mechanical condition should be assessed by a qualified mechanic.
Which documents are needed for a transfer of ownership?
The usual documents include identification for both parties, the contract or invoice, registration certificate, technical inspection card and evidence of the relevant tax payment.
How soon must ownership be transferred?
The buyer is generally required to apply for the transfer of ownership within 30 days of signing the contract.
How can the seller confirm the transfer?
The seller should retain the signed contract and confirm that the ownership details have been updated. A notification of sale may also be submitted to the DGT where appropriate.
Is an EU import different from a non-EU import?
Yes. A vehicle imported from outside the EU also requires customs clearance before the remaining registration steps can be completed.
Can I drive while registration is pending?
In general, the vehicle cannot be driven in Spain until registration is complete, although temporary green plates may be available in certain cases.
